Cards Run Win Streak to Three

Match Results

BEREA, Ohio—The Otterbein University women's tennis team capped off a perfect week, winning its third-straight match, 9-0, at Baldwin Wallace Friday in Berea.

The Cardinals had swept Capital University, 9-0, and Marietta College, 8-1, earlier in the week. With the win, Otterbein, 8-4 overall, improved to 3-1 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) and moved into a share of third place with Baldwin Wallace in the conference standings.

"Our focus is on playing our matches one better than the time before and we are doing just that," said Otterbein head coach Pat Anderson. "We have Ohio Northern and John Carroll next week. Playing three matches this week and taking care of business will, hopefully, help us step up against these teams."

Ohio Northern, 10-3 overall, and John Carroll, 6-5, sit in a tie for first place in the OAC, each 2-0 in the league.

The Cardinals, playing Saturday's match inside Lou Higgins Center Fieldhouse, wasted little time, winning all three doubles matches to put the Yellow Jackets in a hole early.

Sammi Kruger, who won all six of her matches this week, paired up with Rylie Markle to score Otterbein's first point, an 8-1 win on court one. Emma Krummel and Adrien Leatherwood followed, winning No. 2 doubles, 8-1. Sophia Navas-Davis and Emily Quill closed out doubles with an 8-5 win on court three.

Kruger kept the momentum going into singles play, finishing first with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles. Alyx Lynham followed with the fifth and deciding point, a 6-4, 6-3 win on court three. Other wins came from Krummel, 6-2, 5-7, 6-0 at No. 2, Leatherwood, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4, Markle, 8-0, at No. 5, and Emily Harper, 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

Krummel and Leatherwood, too, won all six of their matches over the current three-match winning streak.

Otterbein is scheduled to return to the courts on Wednesday, hosting Ohio Northern, beginning at 3:30 p.m.
