BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein University softball team picked up another conference sweep Monday afternoon, winning both games of a doubleheader at Baldwin Wallace University.

The Cardinals, prevailing by scores of 3-2 and 12-9, pick up a fifth win in their last six Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) games to improve to 9-13 overall, 5-3 within the league.

Baldwin Wallace (7-15, 0-8 OAC) held a 2-0 lead entering the sixth inning of game one, but Otterbein tied the game on a 2-RBI double down the right-field line from Megan Garner. Sophomore Kennedy Daly lifted the team to victory in the final inning, launching a solo home run to left field that proved to be the difference maker.

The margin was enough for reigning OAC Pitcher of the Week Rachael Owens, who sat down three-straight Yellow Jackets in the last-at bat to grab her seventh win of the year. She earned the conference honor earlier Monday afternoon after posting a 3-0 record last week, allowing just five runs in 17-plus innings.

Game two became a much higher-scoring affair, with Otterbein holding an early 4-1 lead before Baldwin Wallace exploded for seven runs in the second inning. The Cards answered in the next-at bat with hits from Owens and Courtney Hanna, and scored once more in the fourth to draw even at 8-8.

The Otterbein offense delivered a timely fifth-inning rally, scoring on a fielder's choice, wild pitch and then a 2-RBI single from Owens to seize a 12-8 lead. Owens earned yet another win in the circle, allowing just one run over the final 5.2 innings of relief while also driving in five runs herself.

McElwain turned in a 3-for-4 performance at the dish, scoring four times and tallying three RBI. Hanna also enjoyed a 3 for 4 afternoon while Garner was 2 for 4 in the second game.

Otterbein is scheduled to be at home for the remainder of the week with doubleheaders against Ohio Northern and John Carroll, although games could potentially be rescheduled due to incoming weather.
