WITTENBERG RESULTSOBERLIN RESULTSOBERLIN, Ohio - The Otterbein University women's tennis team opened its first week of the fall season this past Wednesday, hosting a dual home match against Wittenberg before traveling to Oberlin College this past weekend for an invitational.
The Cardinals opened the fall season with a 6-3 win over Wittenberg, competing in six separate singles matches and a trio of doubles matches, winning four and two, respectively.
Four Otterbein players picked up victories in singles competition, led by No. 1 player
Sammi Kruger who defeated Carli Milano (7-5, 6-2).
Rylie Markle picked up the No. 2 singles victory, defeating Alivia Livesay (6-1, 6-0), while
Adrien Leatherwood defended the No. 3 spot over Alyson Dust (6-3, 6-1).
Rounding out the Cardinals in singles was
Sophia Navas-Davis, who defeated Haley Jackson in the No. 6 spot (6-4, 6-0);
Sophie Allen fell to Sarah Frisch in the No. 4 spot (6-1, 6-2);
Megan Locke was defeated by Prisa Bennett in the No. 5 spot (6-2, 6-1). Â Â
Otterbein picked up two of three wins in doubles, led by the No. 1 duo of Kruger and Markle who teamed up to defeat Livesay and Rayika Karachiwalla (9-7). Leatherwood and Navas-Davis paired up in the No. 2 matchup, defeating Dust and Sarah Frisch by the same margin.
Allen and
Megan Yates concluded the Cardinals doubles competition, falling to Milano and Nora Jacobson (8-6).Â
At the Oberlin Invitational, five separate Otterbein players picked up wins over the course of three rounds. Markle led the Cardinals with a pair of singles victories, defeating Mikaela Pope of Allegheny College (6-1, 7-6), before dropping John Carroll's Natalie Bourlas (6-3, 6-4).
The other three singles victories were tallied by Allen, who defeated Ivana Bidovic of John Carroll (3-6, 6-4, 10-2); Locke defeated Wooster's Katie Kuszmishin (6-3, 6-3); Navas-Davis defeated Morgan Wagers, also from Wooster (6-1, 6-2).Â
A total of four doubles competitions were also won by the Cardinals, as Leatherwood and Navas-Davis recorded two of them over the course of three rounds. Kruger and Markle paired up for the third Otterbein victory in doubles competition, while Allen and Yates rounded out the Cardinal victories.
The Cardinals return to the court at the Kenyon Invitational Sept. 19 - 20, before wrapping up their fall season at home against Cedarville University on Sept. 22.
