WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team benefited from a pair of second-half goals to top Wilmington, 2-0, on Tuesday night in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup at Memorial Stadium.
The game featured a combined 70 years of coaching experience between Cardinal skipper
Gerry D'Arcy and the Quakers' Bud Lewis. D'Arcy is in his 29th year in the league, while Lewis is in his 18th since Wilmington joined in 2000.
A closely-contested first half resulted in Wilmington taking a slim advantage in shots at 9-8 into the break, as the two teams combined for eight fouls in a physical style of play. Cardinal goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann was stellar in goal the entire night, recording six of his eight saves in the initial frame.
Junior
Nate Norris was first to ink the scoreboard for the Cards in the 62nd minute, netting his third score of the year on a strike to the upper right corner of the Quaker goal after being setup by classmate
Gavin Koerner.
Freshman
Tiger Pham added to the Otterbein lead 13 minutes later after the Cards sliced through the Quaker midfield and Pham launched a shot from 40 yards out. The goal was his third of the season.
The shots were aplenty between the two squads as they collected 32 together, with Wilmington holding a 9-5 lead in shots on goal. Otterbein was able to draw its opponent offside four times to its mark of one.
Otterbein will wrap up its week by hosting Heidelberg on Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 3 p.m.
