Rose-Hulman ResultsAve Maria ResultsMary (N.D.) Results ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein University women's tennis team concluded its spring break by winning three-straight matches, defeating Rose-Hulman, Ave Maria, and Mary (N.D.).
Otterbein (8-1 overall) has now run its win-streak to six, the most victories in-a-row since the 2013-14 season in which the team tallied 16-straight wins.
The Cardinals swept all nine competitions against Rose-Hulman on Monday, dominating the Fightin' Engineers in both singles and doubles play.
Junior
Rylie Markle led the Cards in the top-spot in singles play, defeating Bella Evans (6-1, 6-4). Freshman
Sophie Allen moved into the No. 2-spot nicely for the Cards, taking down Lauren Edwards (6-1, 6-1).
Senior
Adrien Leatherwood claimed victory in the three-spot, defeating Linda Schaffer (6-3, 6-0), while classmate
Megan Locke followed as the four with a win over Sydney Short (6-1, 6-0).
Sophomore
Sophia Navas-Davis and freshman
Megan Yates rounded out the Cardinal competitors in singles with their seventh and second wins, respectively. Leatherwood and Markle teamed up in the No.1-spot for Otterbein in doubles play, defeating Edwards and Bella Evans (8-4).
Navas-Davis and sophomore
Emily Quill paired in the two-spot and downed Schaffer and Short (8-3), while Allen and Yates shutout Beata Barati and Coco Liu (8-0).
Otterbein enjoyed a day off before taking down Ave Maria, 6-3, on Wednesday afternoon. The Cardinals posted wins in four singles matches and a pair in doubles for the victory.
Leatherwood tallied the initial Cardinal win with a defeat of Camilia Branstner (6-1, 6-1), before Locke proved victorious over Caitlin Constance (6-4, 6-0). Navas-Davis won in the five-spot, taking down A. Lis-Planells (6-2, 6-0), while Quill found herself in the win column in the six-spot over Mary Hardin (6-0, 6-1).
Markle and Allen dropped their singles matches in the one and two spots, respectively.
Quill and Navas-Davis paired in the two-spot in doubles and won their match convincingly over Branstner and Lis-Planells (8-2), while Locke and Yates teamed up in the three-spot for a shutout victory over Constance and Katie Trudeau (8-0). Markle and Leatherwood fell in their doubles match as the ones to Lee and M. Vargas-Ingoglia (8-4).
The Cardinals wrapped up spring break with a 6-3 win over Mary (N.D.) on Thursday, completing the sweep of all five opponents over the five-day trip. Otterbein picked up wins in four singles matches and two doubles.
Leatherwood improved to 9-4 on the year in singles play after taking down Anastasia Bruss in a battle of the three's (7-6, 6-2). Locke also picked up her fifth win of the season after defeating Eileen Leong (6-2, 7-6).
Navas-Davis improved to a team-best record of 9-2, picking up the win over Shanna Stevenson in the five-spot (6-4, 6-2), while Quill moved to a perfect 4-0 with a win over Lisa Anderson (6-2, 6-1). Markle and Allen each fell in their matches in the first two spots, respectively.
Markle and Leatherwood totaled their fourth win together in No. 1 doubles play, defeating Leong and Catherine Gibbens (9-8). Quill and Navas-Davis remained undefeated as a tandem, defeating Bruss and Monica Benda (8-4). Allen and Yates dropped their doubles match, moving to an even 5-5 on the year.
