Box Score WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's lacrosse team notched its fifth-straight victory Wednesday evening, turning back Wilmington College by a lopsided score of 17-5 at Memorial Stadium.
The Cards, now 8-4 overall and 2-0 within Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play, will finish out the week with a home game against Baldwin Wallace Saturday at 1 p.m. The Yellow Jackets enter boasting a 10-1 record.
Both teams played a low-scoring first quarter, with Otterbein taking a 2-1 lead into the second period after goals from seniors
Connor Baak and
Robbie Guiliano.
The Cardinals busted the game open as the second quarter progressed, getting goals from five-different players in the frame to take a 9-1 lead by halftime. Included in the stretch was the first goal of the season from fifth-year defensive middie
Derek Hohn, which also marked just the second of his career.
Otterbein only outscored Wilmington (4-5, 0-2 OAC) by a margin of 3-2 in the third period, but managed to net a pair of quick goals to begin the fourth and never look back. Freshman
Ian Moews tallied the first goal of his young career with 6:19 remaining off an assist from classmate
Trevor Brown.
The Tan and Cardinal received multi-goal performances from six-different players, led by hat tricks from Guiliano and classmate
Marcus Willis. Guiliano, Baak and
Nick Tholt also dished out multiple assists during the contest, which saw 14 assists on 17 Cardinal scores.
Faceoff specialist
Carlos Salazar, the two-time reigning OAC Defensive Player of the Week, finished 14 of 19 in the middle for his fifth-consecutive game over 65 percent. He also recorded six ground balls and an assist for the third time in the past four contests.

The Otterbein defense kept its opponent in single digits for a fifth-straight time, getting four saves from starting goalie
James Gundling and then eight from
Matt Niemi in the second half.
