UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Otterbein University softball team improved to 12-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play after taking both games of a doubleheader at John Carroll on Saturday.<br />
<br />
Otterbein (25-3-2 overall) won game one, 4-0, and then claimed game two in six innings, 10-1. The shutout in game one was the Cardinals' seventh of the season and third of the current 10-game win streak.<br />

<strong>Game 1</strong><br />

Starting pitcher
Rachael Owens continued her steady pitching performance for the Cards, posting her third-straight complete game, holding the JCU offense to just 4 hits and no walks while fanning seven batters.<br />
<br />
The Cardinals plated a pair of runs in the opening frame thanks to sophomore
Megan Garner reaching on a fielder's choice, which scored junior
Chey Rowe. Owens drove in classmate
Bailey McElwain in the next at-bat on a groundout.<br />

Owens doubled to left center field in the third inning, giving the Cards a 3-0 lead, proving to be the only other run scored prior to the seventh inning. Junior
Molly Riggs added the final run for Otterbein on a two-out single in the seventh inning, scoring sophomore
Maddie Flasco who led off the frame with a single.<br />

<strong>Game 2</strong><br />

Freshman pitcher
Gabby Johnson was also impressive in her start in game two, allowing one run on four hits while striking out five JCU batters over six innings.<br />
Flasco gave the Cards an early 1-0 lead in the first inning on her second home run of the season.<br />
<br />
The Cards added another run in the top of the fourth inning, as Johnson plated two runs on a ground-rule double over the outfield fence. Both teams pushed across a run in the fifth inning, making the score 3-1 in favor of Otterbein, before the Cards blew the game wide open with a seven-run sixth inning.<br />

Rowe ignited the Cards' scoring run by reaching first base on a fielder's choice, scoring freshman
Alyson Shaw who reached base after being hit by a pitch. Otterbein strung together five-straight hits, scoring five runs, before ending the inning with a 10-1 lead after totaling six hits in the inning.<br />
<br />
Owens closed out the game strong in the bottom half of the inning, retiring the Blue Streaks in order. A total of four Cardinal players recorded two or more hits in the game, as Otterbein outhit JCU, 13-4.<br />
