UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Cardinal men's lacrosse team came up short in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action Saturday evening, falling by a score of 14-7 at John Carroll University.
The first quarter was a chess match, featuring just one goal from JCU's Declan O'Grady on a man-up opportunity at the 5:10 mark. Otterbein settled in and grabbed leads of 2-1 and 3-2, but the host Blue Streaks (8-5, 4-1 OAC) strung together three-straight goals and ultimately took a slim 5-4 lead into intermission.
John Carroll scored two early goals to begin the second half before Otterbein sophomore
Connor Dziewit netted a goal at the 11:22 mark, making the score 7-5. JCU would take control from there, scoring five-unanswered goals to open a 12-5 lead and coast to victory.
Dziewit scored three times to lead Otterbein and also added an assist for four total points. Senior
Connor Baak added three points while
Nick Tholt tallied a pair of assists.
Four John Carroll players tallied multi-goal performances, led by hat tricks from RP Whitty and Collin Riley. The Streaks finished with a 38-31 shot advantage, won 14 of 24 faceoffs and were 3 of 6 on extra-man opportunities.
The Cards came up empty on both of their extra-man sequences. Both goalies,
James Gundling of Otterbein and JCU's Carl Roman, made nine saves in the cage.
