WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein University women's tennis team wrapped up regular-season play on Saturday with an 8-1 defeat of Heidelberg inside the Clements Rec Center.
Otterbein (16-3 overall) concludes its regular-season campaign with a 6-2 record in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play and has secured the No. 3-seed in the upcoming OAC Tournament. The Cardinals will host sixth-seeded Heidelberg in a quarterfinal match next Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
The Cards also celebrated the playing careers of seniors
Adrien Leatherwood,
Megan Locke, and
Sammi Kruger on Saturday. Leatherwood topped the Berg's Allie Gales in No. 4 singles (6-0, 6-3), recording her team-leading 18th win of the season.
Locke also proved victorious in a swift defeat in the five spot of Allison Costantino (6-0, 6-1), finishing the regular season with a 16-8 overall record. Kruger made it a clean sweep for the Cardinal seniors, serving as the No. 2 and taking down Nicole Millar (6-1, 6-0) for her 10th win of the year.
Junior
Rylie Markle, the team's No. 1 player in both singles and doubles, split her matches with a loss alongside Leatherwood to Heidelberg's Millar and Sofey Fugate (9-7) and then rebounded nicely with a win over Fugate (6-0, 6-1).
Sophomore
Sophia Navas-Davis won both of her matches, teaming with Kruger to defeat Markilynn Hogle and Allie Gales (8-4) followed by a victory over Catherine Harris (6-0, 6-1) in No. 6 singles.
Freshman
Sophie Allen wrapped up singles play for the Cards in the No. 3 spot, defeating Hogle (6-0, 6-3), while sophomore
Emily Quill and freshman
Megan Yates flew past Costantino and Harris (8-3) in No. 3 doubles.
