WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein University women's tennis team advanced to the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament semifinals for the seventh-straight season after defeating Heidelberg, 5-0, in a quarterfinal match on Tuesday afternoon.
The No. 3-seeded Cardinals will play on Friday against second-seeded Ohio Northern, the tournament host, with first serve scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Lindner Tennis Center.
The match originally began outdoors at the Sanders Tennis Courts, but was forced inside the Clements Rec Center after about 40 minutes of play due to rain.
Otterbein got off to a quick 3-0 lead after winning all three in doubles play to open the match, including an 8-1 win for
Adrien Leatherwood and
Rylie Markle over the Berg's Sofey Fugate and Nicole Millar in the top spot.Â
The No. 2 duo of
Sammi Kruger and
Sophia Navas-Davis, as well as No. 3
Emily Quill and
Megan Yates, wrapped up doubles with a pair of 8-2 victories. Kruger tallied the fourth point of the match for the Cardinals in the two spot in singles, topping Millar (6-2, 6-0).Â
Leatherwood, who played as the No. 4 in singles, closed out the match for the Cards with a shutout of Heidelberg's Allie Gales (6-0, 6-0).
