MASON, Ohio - The Otterbein University women's tennis team upset No. 2-seeded Ohio Northern on Friday, 5-2, in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) quarterfinal match at the Lindner Family Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

Otterbein (18-3 overall) reaches the OAC Tournament championship match for the first time since 2014 when it won the title, and will now face top-seeded John Carroll, who is also ranked No. 19 in the region, on Saturday at 10 a.m. JCU won its match against fourth-seeded Baldwin Wallace this afternoon, 6-0.

The Cardinals had suffered a tough 5-4 loss to the Polar Bears a week ago, but opened today by taking two of the three doubles matches.

"It's always sweet to get to replay a team you could have won against the first time," said head coach Pat Anderson. "The girls weren't going to lose today."

Senior Adrien Leatherwood and junior Rylie Markle fell to Lynn Kelly and Taryn Stromback (8-2) in first doubles, before Otterbein's No. 2 pairing of senior Sammi Kruger and sophomore Sophia Navas-Davis tied the match at one apiece after topping ONU's Megan Letizia (8-3).

The Cards' No. 3 duo of sophomore Emily Quill and freshman Sophie Allen gave the team a 2-1 advantage with a defeat of Morgan McGlothlin and Elise Smith (8-6).

Otterbein needed three more wins to close out the match and it was able to get solid victories in singles from Leatherwood as the No. 4, senior Megan Locke as the No. 5, and Navas-Davis as the No. 6. Leatherwood extended the Cardinal lead to 3-1 after finishing first in singles for a shutout win over McGlothlin (6-0, 6-0).

Locke put the Cards just one win away from advancing to the final round, taking down Brittany Toney (6-0, 6-2). Kruger then came up short in her match as the No. 1 against Kelly (6-2, 6-2), before Navas-Davis sealed the victory with a defeat of Smith (6-3, 6-2).
