DELAWARE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team was handed a hard-fought, 2-0, loss by No. 18 Ohio Wesleyan University Wednesday evening at the Jay Martin Soccer Complex.
Otterbein (1-2) battled it with Ohio Wesleyan throughout the first half, with both teams firing off a number of shots.
It was the Bishops (3-0) who found the back of the net first, just two minutes before halftime, when Adam Yingling chipped one over Otterbein goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann to get a 1-0 lead. Ohio Wesleyan also collected a 10-6 shot advantage after the first half of play.
The second half saw aggressive offenses from both sides as well as a new goalkeeper for the Cardinals, with junior
Mack Stamper coming in to relieve Hoffmann. The relentless OWU offense struck again when Kyle Baum found the back of the net off an assist by Jarrod Ferstl at 69:31, which ultimately helped seal the match for the host squad.
The Battling Bishops ended the outing with a shot advantage of 21-10 over the Cardinals. Otterbein was able to hold a save advantage of 7-3 over OWU, with Hoffmann collecting three saves and Stamper tallying four.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Friday at Memorial Stadium, where they will take on Wittenberg University for a 5 p.m. start time.
