Box Score
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Cardinal men's soccer team tied an over decade-old winning streak following a 4-0 victory over Muskingum Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference battle at Ballenger Field.
Otterbein (9-2 overall) ups its winning streak to seven-straight to tie for the most wins in-a-row for the program since 2003. The Cards increase their undefeated conference record to 3-0, having now shutout its opponents in six games this season including three-straight.
The Cardinals jumped on the scoreboard early in the game thanks to senior
Noah Coons finding the back of the net for the second time this season, tapping in a shot deep inside the Muskie box following the dish from junior
Erick Juarez-Manning.
Otterbein would conclude the opening half of play holding a 1-0 advantage, unloading 16 shots to Muskingum's mark of just two. Muskie goalkeeper Chase Bradshaw, who came on in late in 24th minute after starter Josh Routte suffered an injury, stopped four shots in the frame.
It was all Cards in the second half as they connected on a trio of goals in a span of seven minutes, two of which came off the foot of sophomore
Kennedy Mensah, who is now tied for a team-best seven scores on the year.
Senior
Jaden Lunger posted his first goal of the season less than five minutes into the second half, heading the ball inside the near side of the net off a free kick from about 30 yards out from sophomore
Tiger Pham.
Mensah then fired in a pair of goals in a span of just over three minutes, the first coming off a well-placed cross from the far side of the field by sophomore
Pau Piang, who accounted for his sixth assist of the season. Coons then assisted Mensah on his second score, again crossing the ball from the far side of the box to put the Cards up 4-0.
The score would remain the same for the remainder of the match as Otterbein finished with a commanding 32-5 advantage in shots, including 17-1 margin on goal.
Sophomore
Collin Hoffmann tallied his ninth win in goal for the Cards in 65 minutes of action, before senior
Mack Stamper came on in relief to close out the game with the lone save on the home end.
Otterbein travels to Wilmington next Wednesday for a 7 p.m. matchup at Townsend Field.
