WOOSTER, Ohio – The Cardinal women's tennis team opened spring play with a 7-2 victory at Wooster on Saturday afternoon inside the Scot Center.
Otterbein improves to 2-1 overall after defeating Wittenberg (5-4) and falling to Cedarville (4-5) this past September during fall play, with a trip to Ohio Wesleyan next Sunday in the Cards' final match before their spring trip to Orlando, Fla. First serve at OWU is set for 3:30 p.m. in Delaware, Ohio.
The Cardinals got off to a solid start after sweeping all three doubles matches, led by an 8-6 victory in first doubles for senior
Rylie Markle and freshman
Makayla Sutter over Wooster's Rachel Mole and Morgan Wagers.
Juniors
Sophia Navas-Davis and
Emily Quill paired in second doubles for a 9-7 win over the Scots' Elizabeth Brewington and Joy Li, before sophomores
Sophie Allen and
Megan Yates topped Bonnie Salmeron and Shannon Sertz in third doubles by the same margin.
Otterbein closed out the match with three wins in singles play, beginning with Navas-Davis' victory over Salmeron in fourth singles (6-0, 6-3), followed by Markle in first singles over Mole (6-4, 6-3).
Allen and freshman
Marriella Briones rounded out the winners for the Cards by outlasting their opponents in a tiebreak set in third and fifth singles, respectively.
