ORLANDO, Fla. – The Otterbein women's tennis team split a pair of matches to begin its spring trip, falling to No. 14-ranked Augustana, 6-3, on Sunday before blanking Wartburg, 9-0, on Monday at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus.
The Cardinals move to 4-2 overall and will enjoy a day off Tuesday before turning their attention to St. Mary (N.D.) on Wednesday and Adrian on Thursday to cap off their spring trip.
Match One vs. #14 Augustana
Otterbein was down 2-1 following doubles play, with juniors
Sophia Navas-Davis and
Emily Quill credited for the initial Cardinal win in second-doubles over Augustana's Lauren Goggin and Madeline Lombardi (8-5).

Makayla Sutter dropped a tough match in first-doubles against Dana Goggin and Caitlyn Schaffer (8-3), before freshman
Marriella Briones and sophomore
Megan Yates fell in third-doubles to Zeana Badawi and Vicki Andova (8-5).
The Cards dropped their match in fourth-singles to begin singles competition, then trailing 3-1, before Stuteville pulled the team within one point following a victory over Lombardi in sixth-singles (6-0, 6-1).
Lauren Goggin, who was ranked 21st in the Central Region in singles, increased the Vikings' lead with a 6-2, 6-0 defeat of Markle in the top spot, before Briones tallied the only other point for the Cards in a win in fifth-singles over Andova (6-4, 6-2).
The loss was the Cardinals first since the season opener at Cedarville this past September, snapping their three-match winning streak.
Match Two vs. Wartburg
The Cardinals made quick work of Wartburg Monday evening, sweeping all nine points beginning with three commanding victories in doubles play.
Briones and Yates led off with an 8-2 defeat of Alexis Kemp and Rachel Zittergruen in third-doubles, before Navas-Davis and Quill posted their second-straight win as a duo with an 8-1 edge over Lauren O'Brian and Gabby Olejniczak in second-doubles.
Markle and Sutter then boosted the Cardinal lead to 3-0 with an 8-2 win over Alex Peterson and Hannah Fox, with many of the same dominant play carrying over into singles.
Stuteville was first on the board for the Cards in singles, cruising past Zittergruen in sixth-singles (6-0, 6-1), while Navas-Davis won by the same margin in fourth-singles over Olejniczak.
Sutter followed with a victory over Fox in second-singles (6-1, 6-1), while Allen recorded a win over O'Brian in third-singles (6-2, 6-0). Briones (6-2, 6-1) and Markle (6-0, 6-2) rounded out the Cardinal winners after claiming victory in fifth and first-singles, respectively.
