WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team collected its second win in-a-row with a 9-0 shutout of Marietta on Tuesday afternoon at the Sanders Tennis Courts.
The Cardinals (11-3 overall) improve to 4-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play with two matches remaining in the regular season. Otterbein will host regionally-ranked John Carroll tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
Otterbein opened the match with a 3-0 lead after sweeping all three matches in doubles competition, as the Pioneers came no closer than an 8-2 margin in favor of juniors
Sophia Navas-Davis and
Emily Quill in the second spot over Sarina Singh and Mandee Young.
Senior
Rylie Markle and freshman
Makayla Sutter also proved victorious in first doubles over Carey Becker and Erin Warvell, while freshmen
Megan Stuteville and
Marriella Briones defeated Erin Rogers and Spenser Jackson in third doubles 8-0.
The Cards then opened up a 4-0 advantage as sophomore
Megan Yates shutout Marietta's Jorden Stuart 6-0, 6-0, before freshman
Marriella Briones boosted the team's lead with a shutout of her own over Jackson.
Otterbein cruised to victory from that point forward with wins in first singles from Markle (6-1, 6-0), second singles from Sutter (6-1, 6-1), third singles from Allen (6-0, 6-0), and fourth singles from Navas-Davis (6-0, 6-3).
