BEXLEY, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team posted its fifth shutout of the season with a 9-0 defeat of Capital on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Cardinals (10-3 overall) has now won nine of their 11 matches since the New Year and seven of their last eight to improve to 3-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action with four matches remaining on the regular-season schedule.
Otterbein took all three matches in doubles play by a margin of 8-0, crediting wins to senior
Rylie Markle and freshman
Makayla Sutter, who are now 8-3 on the season, juniors
Emily Quill and
Sophia Navas-Davis, who move to team-best 10-1, while sophomore
Megan Yates and freshman
Marriella Briones boost their record to 6-2.Â
Much of the same stayed the same for the Cardinals in singles competition, as no match was in jeopardy of going in the Crusaders' favor with shut-out wins earned by Markle as the No. 1, sophomore
Sophie Allen as the No. 3, Briones as the No. 5 and Yates as the No. 6.Â
The other Cardinal victories in the match came in second and fourth singles, as Sutter and Navas-Davis cruised to victory, respectively. Otterbein now has three players with double-digit win totals in singles play, while three others have at least seven.
Otterbein hosts its final three home matches of the regular season beginning Tuesday against Marietta. First serve is slated for 3:30 p.m.Â
