TIFFIN, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team secured the No. 4-seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament with an 8-1 win over Heidelberg in its regular-season finale on the road Monday evening.
The Cardinals conclude the regular season at 12-5 overall and 5-3 in conference play, making it five-consecutive seasons with 12 or more wins overall and 11-straight years with at least five victories in OAC competition. Otterbein will host fifth-seeded Baldwin Wallace in an OAC Tournament quarterfinal match Wednesday at 5 p.m.
Otterbein made it a quick outing against the Berg thanks in part to a sweep of all three doubles matches. Senior
Rylie Markle and freshman Makayla Sutter opened with an 8-0 defeat of Heidelberg's Markilynn Hogle and Nicole Millar in first doubles, before sophomore
Megan Yates and
Marriella Briones teamed up in the second spot for another shut-out win.Â

Sophie Allen then put the Cardinals up 3-0 in the match following another 8-0 victory in third doubles, this one coming over the Berg's Summer Hunter-Kysor and Mallory Paul.
The Cardinals then claimed five of the six singles matches, led by a 6-2, 6-1 win for Markle in the top spot over Hogle. Allen also proved victorious in third singles following a 6-1, 6-0 decision over Allie Gales, while Briones cruised past Jillian Goulet by a margin of 6-0, 6-1 in fourth singles.
Freshman
Megan Stuteville (6-0, 6-1) and Yates (6-1, 6-0) tallied the other two victories for the Cards in fifth and six singles, respectively, while Sutter suffered a tough defeat in the second spot to Millar (7-5, 6-2).
