WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein men's soccer team completes a 1-0 victory over Manchester in a gritty matchup on Sunday afternoon inside Memorial Stadium.
The Cardinals (4-2 overall) have now won two-straight games and have allowed one goal or fewer in each of their four victories, outscoring their opponents 13-1 over that span.
Both teams played to a scoreless first half with Otterbein dominating the shot margin at 15-1 with sophomore
Kennedy Mensah leading the way with four shots of his own.
The Cardinals also held a commanding 8-1 advantage in corner kicks, firing multiple shots on goal to keep Spartan goalkeeper Brady Forman busy in goal with five first-half saves.
Otterbein picked up right where it left off to begin the second half, unloading two shots in the first four minutes of play before sophomore
Eric Stucky netted the game's initial goal in the 49th minute. The score came off a rebounded shot from Mensah, who was credited with the assist, which Stucky promptly placed into the back of the net.
Mensah then turned around for a goal of his own in the 67th minute, blasting in his fourth goal of the season following a rebounded shot in the Manchester box off the foot of fellow sophomore
Pau Piang, to which junior
Erick Juarez-Manning dished back for the assist.
The Cardinals locked down the defensive end for the remainder of the contest, holding the Spartans to no shots in the second frame to claim an impressive 31-1 margin in shots. Otterbein also won the corner kick battle after earning a 9-1 line.
Cardinal goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann was credited with his fourth win between the posts after going the distance, while Forman concluded the match with 11 saves.
Otterbein resumes its homestand Wednesday night when it hosts Denison at 7 p.m. at Ballenger Field.
