GAMBIER, Ohio – The Otterbein University men's soccer squad dropped a 4-1 contest at No. 5-ranked Kenyon on Wednesday evening at Mavec Field.
The Cardinals (1-1 overall) resumes its three-game homestand on Saturday with a trip to Hanover for a non-conference affair in Indiana. Kickoff is set for 3:30 p.m.
Kenyon was first to ink the scoreboard in the 14th minute of action, as the Lords' Henry Myers netted a shot off the rebound which happened to land in perfect position set up the score.
Otterbein responded just over 10 minutes later, as sophomore
Kennedy Mensah evened the score at one apiece after cashing in on a breakaway shot following a through ball from classmate
Pau Piang. The assist was Piang's third in two games.
The score remained tied at halftime with Kenyon holding a 12-4 advantage in shots, with Cardinal goalkeeper
Collin Hoffmann stopping five shots from the Lords. Only three corner kicks were earned in the initial frame, two of which went to Kenyon.
Kenyon ramped up its offense in the second half, notching three goals in a span of 17 minutes with the initial one coming in the 55th minute off the foot of Woo Jeon. The Lords would add to their lead in the 70th and 72nd minutes, the first coming off a penalty kick following a foul on Otterbein in its own box.
The Lords finished the game owning a 25-7 margin in shots, 16 of which came on goal to the Cards' mark of four. Hoffmann finished the game with 12 saves for the Cardinals, while Ian McInturf posted three saves on the opposite end.
