WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A strong start would unfortunately not hold up for the Otterbein men's lacrosse team Wednesday evening inside Memorial Stadium, a night that ended with The College of Wooster prevailing by a score of 14-8.

The game entered halftime locked at 5-5 after varying quarters, with the Cardinals holding a 4-1 lead after the first period before Wooster flipped the script in the second.

Otterbein's hot start came with four-different scorers in the opening 15 minutes, netting points off the sticks of Robby Fields, Joe Sanfillipo, Chandler Swartz and a goal with three seconds left by way of Drew McDonald.

The Fighting Scots (2-0) responded with a nice second frame, eventually drawing even after a buzzer-beating goal of their own with just four seconds left on the clock prior to intermission. It would all be a part of a 9-1 run by Wooster, which held a 5-0 scoring edge in the third quarter to find some breathing room at 10-5.

Otterbein did its best to stay close, trailing 10-6 approaching the midway point of the final period before Wooster ultimately proved to be just too strong. The Scots ripped off 49 shots behind a solid showing at the faceoff X, capturing 14 of the 24 showdowns to help overcome an 0 for 7 output on extra-man opportunities.

Wooster's Sam Kuhn controlled the game, going for three goals and another three assists to lead all scorers. He was joined by a game-best four goals from his younger brother, Cullen Kuhn, along with another three from Shaun Pierce.

The Cards received a two-goal, two-assist night from Sanfillipo and a three-point performance (2G, 1A) from Swartz. Goalie Matt Niemi was able to stop 14 shots for Otterbein, which racked up nine penalties for eight minutes. Wooster cager Wesley Wagner had eight stops, along with a rare assist, for the Scots.

Otterbein will head out west over spring break, traveling to Colorado College for matchups against the host tigers and also Wittenberg. Games are scheduled for Sunday and Wednesday.
