Women's Tennis Blanks Capital for 10th-Straight Win

Match Results

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis squad reached the double-digit mark for its winning streak with a 9-0 shutout of Capital on Monday evening in Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) action.

The Cardinals (13-3 overall) remain perfect in league play now up to 5-0 and are one win shy of tying the team's 11-match win streak set in 2016. Otterbein has not lost in over a month and have shutout four-straight opponents, along with five of its previous six.

Otterbein's closest margin of victory over the current win streak came on the final match of the spring trip in a 5-4 victory over Division II Saint Anselm. The Cards will look to keep their winning ways alive Wednesday at Ohio Northern, also undefeated in the OAC.

A sweep in doubles play got the Cards ahead of rival Capital in the early going of the match played inside at the Olympic Tennis Center, an event originally scheduled for this past Saturday but was postponed due to inclement weather.

Seniors Emily Quill and Sophia Navas-Davis highlighted doubles with an 8-0 win, making it 11 victories in a row in the second spot for a team-best 13-3 mark as a duo on the year.

Sophomores Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter also blanked Capital in the top spot, boosting their streak to four-straight as a tandem, while sophomore Marriella Briones and freshman Jordyn Traxler made it seven-straight victories with an 8-2 win in third doubles.

Several other unbeaten streaks were added to in singles competition, including Navas-Davis, who has just one loss on the season, making it 12-straight in the five spot, while Briones made it an even 10 in a row playing as the No. 4.

Junior Sophie Allen also improved on her win total a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the third spot, as she now holds a nine-match winning streak. Bergman, who was voted OAC Player of the Week this afternoon, also dominated in a 6-1, 6-0 win in first singles.

Sutter also proved victorious in the lone shutout of singles for the Cards, now with a 4-1 mark in conference play, while sophomore Megan Stuteville made it 10 wins on the year with a defeat of Katie Woods in sixth singles.
