Women's Tennis Falls 6-3 to John Carroll on Senior Day

Match Results

WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team suffered a 6-3 loss against John Carroll on Senior Day Saturday afternoon in an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) matchup out at the Sanders Tennis Courts.

The Cardinals (13-5 overall) move to 5-2 in conference play with just two matches remaining on the regular-season schedule. Otterbein will travel to non-conference opponent Wittenberg on Monday afternoon for a match at 2 p.m.

Otterbein, currently in sole possession of third-place in the league standings, will then face Baldwin Wallace on the road next Saturday in its regular-season finale, as the six-team OAC Tournament is on the horizon set for May 1-5.

A pre-match ceremony recognizing the collegiate playing career of seniors Emily Quill and Sophia Navas-Davis was held prior to first serve, as the two entered play with a 12-match win streak at second doubles.

John Carroll (12-5, 6-0 OAC) claimed two-of-three in doubles competition to start the match, taking first doubles 8-4 before a narrow 9-7 victory in the second spot.

It was sophomore Marriella Briones and freshman Jordyn Traxler who made it seven-straight wins as a tandem in the third spot, giving the Cards their first point of the afternoon following a solid 8-2 triumph.

Otterbein only managed to claim two more points over the course of singles, as Briones and Navas-Davis each tallied three-set victories in the fourth and fifth spot, respectively. The two have combined to win 26 matches in a row in singles play, Navas-Davis with 14 and Briones now with 12.

JCU grabbed the other four points en route to the win, including a tightly-contested three-set loss for sophomore Megan Stuteville of the Cardinals in the sixth spot.
