BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team was victorious by a score of 8-1 at Baldwin Wallace on Saturday in its Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) regular-season finale.
The Cardinals secured the third-seed as a result in next week's OAC Tournament, and and are now scheduled to host sixth-seeded Capital in the quarterfinals on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
Otterbein got off to a fast start by winning all three doubles matches, the closest margin coming in a not-so-close 8-4 victory for sophomore Marriella Briomes and freshman
Jordyn Traxler in the third spot.
Seniors
Emily Quill and
Sophia Navas-Davis also triumphed easily in second doubles by a mark of 8-1, while sophomore duo
Makayla Sutter and
Sydney Bergman made it a clean sweep after trumping the top spot 8-3.
Four of the Cards' five points in singles came in straight sets without a tiebreak needed, as Bergman, Briones, Navas-Davis and Traxler were responsible for that cluster of scoring.
Sutter also battled to victory in second singles after outlasting BW's Imani Robinson 6-4, 7-6 (7-5), while junior
Sophie Allen fell in a closely-contested match in third singles (6-4, 6-4).Â
