WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team came away with a 6-3 victory against Mount Union Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals won five single matches. Otterbein improves to 9-2 overall and 1-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Mount Union falls to 8-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Mount Union started the day off by wining two of the three double matches, as Marriella Briones and Jordyn Traxler won 8-6 in the second doubles slot.
- Otterbein started to make a comeback in the singles section, as Traxler and Madison Mueller each cruised to a 6-4, 6-3 victory. In third singles, Briones won back-to-back competitive sets 7-6, 7-6 and won both tiebreakers.
- The Cardinals led 4-3 with Sydney Bergman and Kristen Zink still playing, as Bergman came away with her fifth victory by winning 7-6, 4-6, 6-1. Zink also came from behind and won her match 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- Otterbein earns its second-straight victory of 6-3 against Mount Union, as both matches were to start OAC play.
- The Cardinals have won three of the last four matches against the Purple Raiders.
- Under head coach Tyler Stephen, the Cardinals have never lost a conference opener and improve to 4-0.
