WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team defeated Wittenberg 6-2 Friday afternoon, as the Cardinals won four of five individual matches. Otterbein improves to 15-3 on the year, while Wittenberg falls to 8-8 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Cardinals started off strong by winning two of the three doubles matches, as Sydney Bergman and Makayla Sutter earned their 12th victory at first doubles.
- Kristen Zink and Madison Mueller defeated the opposition by a 8-2 result. The duo is a perfect 6-0 on the year from third doubles.
- In the individual matches, Bergman won 6-2, 4-6, 11-9 in a competitive first singles match. Marriella Briones picked up her 15th win of the year by defeating Alivia Livesay 6-2, 6-4 at third singles.
- Mueller battled in the first set by winning 6-4, the freshman cruised in the second set and came away with a 6-1 result. Megan Stuteville earned the final Cardinal point winning 6-1, 6-3 at sixth singles.
- Zink had the only match that did not earn a result. The sophomore won the first set 6-3 and was tied 5-5 in the second set before the match was called early.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- For the first time in over a decade, the Cardinals had a result that was not a nine total points against a division III opponent.
- The Cardinals are still perfect at home, as the team has now won seven matches. Otterbein has only lost seven total points at home this season and have won 54 points.
- Otterbein currently has a .726 winning percentage at singles and a .729 doubles winning percentage.
- Mueller has now won eight-straight matches at fifth singles and currently owns a 12-2 overall record.
