BEREA, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team defeated Baldwin Wallace 7-2 Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals have officially earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament.
The Cardinals now own a 17-3 overall record and a 7-1 conference mark, while Baldwin Wallace falls to 4-13 on the year and 4-4 in the league. Otterbein has earned a bye into the semifinals, as BW will play in the 4/5 matchup against Mount Union.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Otterbein jumped out to an early 3-0 after doubles, as Madison Mueller and Megan Yates recorded the lone 8-0 win. Sydney Bergman and Kristen Zink won 8-4 at first doubles and Jordyn Traxler and Marriella Briones earned an 8-4 win at third doubles.
- Bergman continued to play strong at first singles, as the junior won 6-1, 6-1. Briones moved up a spot and came away victorious by a result of 6-2, 6-3.
- Mueller cruised and won 6-0, 6-1 against Kathleen Moser, while Megan Stuteville earned the final Cardinal point with a 6-1, 6-1 win.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
- This is the first time in program history that the Cardinals have earned a first-round bye at the OAC Tournament.
- Otterbein has defeated Baldwin Wallace in nine-straight matches, as the last time the Cardinals lost was back in 2011.
- Briones earned her first victory this season at second doubles and now owns a 17-5 individual record, including winning nine of her last 10 matches.
- The Cardinals have now won five-straight matches and nine of the last 10 matches.

The Cardinals will take on the winner of Ohio Northern and Capital on Friday. Earlier this season Otterbein bested ONU 5-4 and Capital 9-0.
