WESTERVILLE, Ohio - The Otterbein women's tennis team defeated Heidelberg 9-0 Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals nearly swept every single match. Otterbein improves to 11-2 on the year and 2-0 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC), while Heidelberg falls to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in the league.
Sydney Bergman led Otterbein from the first singles slot, as the junior won 6-0, 6-0 and now has a 6-6 record.
Makayla Sutter came away with a 6-0, 6-0 victory and currently has an 8-4 overall record from the second singles position.
Marriella Briones defeated Meridith Lucius 6-0, 6-0 in third singles, and currently holds a three match winning streak. In fourth singles,
Kristen Zink did not drop a single set.
Heidelberg had two players who were unable to compete due to injuries, which resulted in forfeit wins for
Madison Mueller and
Megan Stuteville.
Bergman and Sutter surrendered one point in doubles and came away with an 8-1 win, as the duo is currently 7-5 on the year. Briones and
Jordyn Traxler swept their opponents to help give Otterbein a lead.
Megan Yates and Zink earned a point for the Cardinals, as Heidelberg had to forfeit the final doubles match.
The Cardinals will travel to Marietta on Wednesday with the match scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
