NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Otterbein softball team defeated Baldwin Wallace 4-0 to earn a spot in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Championship game tomorrow morning, as the Cardinals used the long ball to secure the victory.
After going up 1-0 in the third inning, the game was pushed back due to the weather. Otterbein had no rust coming back for the second half of the game, as
Courtney Hackney hit a two run home run in the fourth inning.
Kayla Queer added a run of insurance in the fifth frame to give Otterbein a 4-0 advantage, as senior
Gabby Johnson came on in relief and threw four shutout innings.
The conference tournament structure goes as followed, Muskingum and Ohio Northern are playing in an elimination game with the winner playing Baldwin Wallace. The winner of the game against Baldwin Wallace will play Sunday against the Cardinals.
Whichever of the other three teams that survives today would have to beat the Cardinals twice tomorrow, with the first game scheduled for 11 a.m. If Otterbein were to drop the first game the second game is set for 1 p.m. The winner of tomorrow's championship game will earn an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
