FINAL RESULTS
BEREA, Ohio – Another triumph was on the slate for the Otterbein women's tennis team Saturday afternoon, as the Cardinals remained in the win column with a comfortable 8-1 victory up north at Baldwin Wallace.
The Cardinals nearly posted a clean sheet but, nevertheless, improve to 3-1 on the season with the only setback currently being a 5-4 loss to OAC leader Ohio Northern.
BW won its only court during a narrow doubles showdown, as
Erin Storrer and
Rachelle Moses dropped a disappointing 7-4 tiebreaker to Ashtyn Morris and Gabi Heideman in the top spot.
Regardless,
Madi Mueller and
Jordyn Traxler cruised 8-2 and the third doubles tandem of
Julia Gillin and
Rachel Ferguson worked hard to also win a tiebreak, 7-4.
The Cardinals quickly extended that 2-1 match lead entering singles play, dropping just one set across the entire afternoon en route to a comfortable margin.
Mueller overcame a 6-1 loss in the opening set (on the second court) with identical 6-2, 6-2 victories. Storrer remained unbeaten individually just ahead with a workmanlike 6-3, 6-3 line.
Traxler (6-4, 6-1), Moses (6-1, 6-4), Ferguson (6-1, 6-4) and Gillin (6-4, 7-5) also prevailed to leave town on a high note.
Otterbein will return to action next week with a pair of rescheduled dates, facing off against John Carroll (in Pepper Pike) and then at Marietta come Thursday afternoon as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.
