FINAL RESULTS
WESTERVILLE, Ohio – A long-awaited return to its home surface finally arrived for the Otterbein women's tennis program Wednesday afternoon on campus, as the Cardinals played host to Ohio Northern in front of a nice crowd and under the bright sun of an even better day of weather.
Unfortunately, the visiting Polar Bears ever-so-slightly remained undefeated (4-0, 3-0 OAC) by escaping the showdown with a competitive 5-4 team decision. The Cardinals now stand 1-1 overall.
It marked the first meeting between the schools since the 2018-19 season, where the sides split a pair of contests. Otterbein won the regular-season battle (5-4) before the Polar Bears got even in the OAC Tournament semifinals.
This matchup was equally close, as four singles courts went to a third set after Otterbein opened with a 2-1 lead in the doubles section. Reigning OAC Player of the Week
Erin Storrer and teammates
Rachelle Moses comfortably won 8-2 in the top spot.
Madi Mueller and
Jordyn Traxler had things a little more challenging in the second position, but ultimately prevailed 8-7 after a quality tiebreak.
Storrer, with a promising career ahead of her, eased to a 6-1, 6-1 victory at top singles as the other individual matchups began trading lengthier points…
Traxler overcame an opening loss in her first set to rebound with victories (6-4, 6-1), but ONU would take the other four courts. Mueller (2) and
Julia Gillin (6) unfortunately lost very close third sets.
Otterbein will look to bounce back this coming weekend, hosting rival Capital for some breakfast ball at 10:30 a.m.
