SHIPPENSBURG RESULTS
ALVERNIA RESULTS
ORLANDO, Fla. – A smooth sweep was in store for the Otterbein women's tennis team to begin spring break on Sunday, as the Cardinals notched a pair of shutouts against Division II Shippensburg and Alvernia at Fort Gatlin.
The Cards began with some breakfast ball against Shippensburg, using D2 rules that award just one point to whichever team wins more doubles matches. Otterbein left little doubt as to which side that would be charted with a trio of 6-0 decisions.
More dominance was in store on the individual side as
Erin Storrer,
Lillia Walter,
Emma Henson,
Madi Mueller,
Rachelle Moses and
Cassady Shough all prevailed in straight sets. No frame was closer than 6-3.
Otterbein regrouped over lunchtime before taking on the Golden Wolves of Alvernia, with a lopsided 9-0 team score falling in favor of the Cards albeit some very competitive moments…
Two 8-1 victories in doubles were sandwiched around a nail-biting triumph in the second spot, where
Rachelle Moses and
Madi Mueller escaped 8-7.
Otterbein, resting Storrer and Henson, then worked its way to win all six courts on the singles side. Mueller had the toughest showdown at No. 2, where she needed a 10-8 breaker to overcome Jillian Laughman and win the second set.
Julia Gillin had a 6-0, 6-0 sweep as Walter (1), Shough (3),
Aubrey McMahon (4) and
Olivia Eckels (5) were all victorious too.
The Cards (now 7-2 overall) will have an off-day Monday before matchups with Ursinus and Covenant spaced out on Tuesday.
