FINAL RESULTS
MIAMISBURG, Ohio – It was smooth sailing for top-seeded Otterbein during semifinal action of the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday afternoon, as the Cardinals eased into the championship round after dispatching of No. 4 seed Baldwin Wallace.
The match was originally slated to be played outdoors at the Lindner Family Tennis Center, but was switched over to South Regency as a result of the weather forecast.
Otterbein won all three doubles courts to begin, and then snagged two victories on the singles courts to cement a quick 5-0 victory. The Cards top BW for a second time this spring.
As a result, the Cardinals will take on No. 3 seed Ohio Northern in Saturday championship match with a trophy and NCAA automatic bid on the line. The Polar Bears stormed back to beat second-seeded John Carroll in a 5-4 thriller during the other semifinal contest.
SEMIFINAL SHUTOUT:
Erin Storrer and
Emma Henson walked to an 8-0 shutout at first doubles, while
Lillia Walter and
Madi Mueller weren't far behind at 8-1 on the second line.
Julia Gillin and
Rachelle Moses worked through a back-and-forth match, but stayed the course to ultimately settle on top at 8-5.
Everyone then took the court for singles competition, with Storrer (6-1, 6-1) and Henson (6-0, 6-1) securing their matches first to end the day.
Walter was ahead 6-3, 2-1 at the time of clinching… as was Mueller (6-3, 1-0) and Moses (3-0).
Cassady Shough was slotted in at the sixth line as per usual.
SATURDAY PREVIEW:
Otterbein earned a 7-2 victory at Ohio Northern earlier this season, with three singles courts going right to the wire and featuring breakers. First serve is currently slated for 10 a.m. at Lindner, although it could be moved if more inclement weather arises.
