GAMBIER, Ohio – The Otterbein women's tennis team kicked off its 2023-24 season recently with a pair of events, getting midway through its non-traditional (fall) schedule by competing in a dual match and the Kenyon Invitational.
Otterbein started the action Thursday afternoon at nearby Mount Vernon Nazarene, besting the Cougars by a
final count of 7-0. The Cardinals secured the lone doubles point (NAIA rules) by taking all courts, with all scores being either a shutout or 6-1.
The Cards then swept every singles showdown, with
Erin Storrer leading the way atop the line in a 6-0, 6-0 blanking.
Lillia Walter (2) and
Aubrey McMahon (6) dropped only one game across their two sets.
The weekend saw a rugged slate of competition at the
Kenyon Invitational, where Otterbein gained more valuable experience against some of the best in the nation.
Walter and
Cassady Shough earned a pair of victories each, while newcomers
Caitlin Pennington and
Taryn Simmers picked up the first individual wins of their young careers.
Highlighting the results was Storrer and Walter notching a big doubles win against Denison, emerging over the Big Red tandem of Dasha Chistyakova and Caroline Lopez by an 8-5 margin.
Otterbein will have two more outings in September to conclude the fall season, playing in the Denison Invitational before ITA Regionals in St. Louis.
