WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Otterbein tennis programs kept moving right along to reach the midway point of a decisive April, as both teams picked up victory while handling some rearranged matches.
The men's side remained perfect in Ohio Athletic Conference play with a crisp 9-0 shutout during a beautiful Saturday afternoon on campus, quickly turning back Marietta. They have now won all three league matches so far.
Max Fickas and
Neil Reddy were almost perfect in an 8-1 victory atop the singles board, while
Joshua Mammen and
Jake Chilcote actually were in taking all eight games of their showdown. The Pioneers defaulted on the third line.
Mammen and Reddy were clean 6-0, 6-0 in their singles matchups while Fickas, Chilcote and
Will Newberry also cruised in dropping just a few random games.
Nikita Kitaev earned a W via default on the sixth line.
The women's team was forced to reschedule its match with the Pioneers after Marietta continues experiencing flooding on/around campus. But, the team was able to hit the court on Sunday for a smooth 9-0 shutout against Franciscan.
The Cardinals won all three doubles matches by either 8-1 or 8-2 margins, and then did more of the same in singles play by raking all six courts top to bottom.
Erin Storrer turned back Baron best Maria Herrera 6-3, 6-1 while the rest of her teammates also cruised.
Lillia Walter was perfect on the second line while
Cassady Shough and
Rachelle Moses nearly were as well in each only dropping one game during their closing sets.
Olivia Eckels and
Aubrey McMahon made sure it was a perfect day working down the lineup.
Things begin to ramp up from here down the latter half of the month, with key mid-week clashes against Ohio Northern now up next.
