TIFFIN, Ohio – A combined effort from jumpers and throwers helped push the Otterbein men's track and field program to fourth place at the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Outdoor Championships across two days at Heidelberg, where the Cardinals lingered within shouting distance of third place across Friday.
Mount Union emerged to win the team crown while John Carroll was a distant second. Ohio Northern finished third, ultimately 15 points ahead of the Cardinals.
DAY 1 RECAP
Top Friday Highlights:
- Just like Thursday, field events opened on a high note as the Cardinals went 2-4-5 in the triple jump behind the trio of Kahlil Jones, Richmond Honkpo and Abreaham Belcher. Jones leapt 44-9 (13.64 meters) on his final attempt in front of multiple teammates cheering on, and Otterbein ultimately racked up a combined 17 points.
Â
- Izaac Swope worked toward a fifth-place result in the 110 hurdles, maneuvering the obstacles in 15.01 seconds. He closed strong after the final hurdle in a crowd of opponents in what became a tight finish.
Â
- Jay Figgins landed eighth in the 1500 meters with a trip of 3:56.03, marking the ninth-fastest time in program history.
Â
- Jonny Powers crossed 11th in the 800 meters at 1:55.55, less than a second out of seventh place and a few potential points. There were 30 total competitors in the race.
Â
- A loaded 5K that saw about 30 runners all packed into one heat ended with John Nice (runner-up in the 10K on Thursday) come in fifth. He ran 14:46 to miss an outdoor PR by a few seconds.
