Trio of All-OAC honorees lead Men's Golf to runner-up finish at OAC Championship

WEST LAFAYETTE — Junior Ian Morgan tied for first to lead three Cardinals earning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors as the Otterbein men's golf team finished as the runner-up at the rain-shortened OAC Championship held Friday through Sunday.

The Basics
  • Venue: River Greens Golf Course - West Lafayette, Ohio
  • Par: 72 in round 1; 71 in rounds 2 and 3
  • Initially set for 72 holes, the tournament was cut to 54 holes after play was suspended between rounds two and three on Saturday. The teams completed the second round and then played the third round on Sunday to close out the tournament.
  • The 14 finishers on the individual leaderboard earn All-OAC recognition.
  • As the team champion, John Carroll earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championships held May 20-23 at the Midvale Country Club in Penfield, N.Y.

The Tournament
  • Otterbein placed second in the nine-team field with a 33-over-par 889 (289-296-304). John Carroll won the team title with a 28-over-par 884 (291-294-299), and Ohio Northern was third with a 41-over-par 897 (295-299-303). Otterbein and John Carroll entered the third round of play tied at 13-over-par.
  • Ian Morgan tied John Carroll's Michael Keefe for first place on the individual leaderboard with a 1-over-par 215. Keefe claimed medalist honors, defeating Morgan on the second playoff hole. Morgan shot a 69-73-73, while Keefe shot a 73-72-70. Mount Union's Brian Myers placed third with a 3-over-par 217.
  • Otterbein led after 27 holes on Friday, sitting at 1-over-par. John Carroll (+6) was second, and Capital (+13) was third. On the individual leaderboard, Ian Morgan posted eight birdies and finished the day at 4-under-par to hold a four-stroke lead atop the field. John Carroll's London Hoyser and Ohio Northern's Bennett Christy were tied for second at even par.

  • Ian Morgan was one of three Cardinals to earn All-OAC recognition, joining juniors Carter Woodward and Jake Morgan in the top 14 in the 44-man field.
  • Woodward tied for eighth with an 8-over-par 222 (72-74-76).

  • Ian Morgan's first-round 69 was the low round of the tournament.
  • Entering the weekend, Jake Morgan (75.0) and Woodward (75.8) led the Cardinals in 18-hole scoring averages among those with at least 17 rounds played this season.
  • Jake Morgan entered the weekend with a season-best 18-hole score of 68, which leads the team.
  • Jake Morgan, senior Quinn Gallagher and Woodward earned All-Ohio Athletic Conference recognition in 2024.
  • Woodward was coming off earning medalist honors at the Otterbein Easter Leftovers Tournament on April 21.
