Women's tennis competes at ITA Regionals

SAINT LOUIS, Mo. – Taking on some of the top competition, the Otterbein University women's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional, hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. 

Taryn Simmers opened the weekend with a gritty comeback win over Ryan Morey from Calvin University. Simmers dropped the opening set 6-3, but responded with a 6-4 victory in the next. She came away with the win after a 10-6 margin in the tiebreaker. The junior fell in the next match by a 6-0, 6-0 score.

Sophomore Daniela De Mata put together a dominant win over Trine's Emma Beehler with a 6-0, 6-2 win. Putting together a good fight in her next match, she ultimately fell to CWRU's Tara Markovic 6-4, 6-2.

De Mata and Breanna Ball competed in doubles action, dropping an 8-2 decision at the hands of CWRU's Atra Biria and Maya Brink. In the consolation bracket, the duo was bounced 8-2 from the tandem from Hope College.

The team will travel to Cedarville University on Monday for a 3 p.m. match.
