WESTERVILLE – The Otterbein University women's tennis team delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, defeating Baldwin Wallace 6-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.
The Cardinals set the tone early by sweeping all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. Taryn Simmers and Niya Bell led the way with a 6-2 win at No. 1, while Breanna Ball and Raina Smith followed with a 6-4 victory at No. 2. Caitlin Pennington and Molly Jones capped the sweep with a 6-0 decision in the third spot.
Otterbein carried that momentum into singles, winning five of six matches.
Simmers controlled her match at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while Bell added another point at No. 3 (6-3, 6-1). Pennington secured a straight-set win at No. 4, and Jones was dominant at No. 5 with a 6-1, 6-0 result.
Smith rounded out the scoring with a shutout performance at No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-0.
Baldwin Wallace's lone point came at the top singles position, but the Cardinals' depth across the lineup proved to be the difference in the 6-1 final.
