Women's tennis to take on Capital in OAC Semifinals

WESTERVILLE – With the No. 2 seed in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, the Otterbein University women's tennis team will be back in action on Friday in the Semifinals. The Cardinals turned in a 3-1 OAC record and will face off against No. 3 Capital at the Lindner Tennis Center in Mason, Ohio.

In the regular season match, the Cardinals came away with a 5-2 victory in the Battle for the Oar.

During conference play, the No. 2 doubles team of Breanna Ball and Raina Smith turned in a 3-1 record, with their lone loss coming to a ranked Ohio Northern squad. Niya Bell and Taryn Simmers have consistently battled at No. 1 doubles, while Molly Jones and Caitlin Pennington have finished the OAC season with a 2-2 record at No. 3 doubles.

At No. 1 singles, Ball looks to respond following a 7-5, 6-2 loss to Capital's Scarlett Stephens in the regular season. Simmers has posted a 3-1 record at No. 2 doubles throughout conference competition and is coming off a 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 win against her most recent Comet opponent, Annika Hansen. Bell rounds out the top three singles spots with a 2-2 OAC record.

Pennington is one of two Cardinals to earn three victories in singles action during OAC play. With a 3-1 record, she grinded out a tough 7-5, 7-5 win against the Comets at No. 4 singles. Jones, a freshman, has finished the conference season with a 3-1 record, primarily competing at No. 5 singles. Like Simmers, she also came away with a tight 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 win in the Capital match in the regular season against Jenny Rollins. Smith rounds out the lineup after going 2-2 in the league.

Otterbein will take on the Comets on Friday at 1 p.m.
