ORLANDO, Fla.—The Otterbein University women's tennis team sandwiched a pair of wins around two losses to go 2-2 in matches played in Orlando, Fla. over Spring Break.

The Cardinals closed out the week with a 7-2 victory over Cedarville University on Thursday. Three of the singles matches went to a third-set tiebreaker with Otterbein claiming all three to settle the victory. Alyx Lynham, third singles, Adrien Leatherwood, fourth singles, and Emily Harper, fifth singles, picked up the third-set wins.

Otterbein opened the week with a split on Monday, shutting out Saint Vincent College, 9-0, and losing a close one, 5-4, to the College of Saint Benedict.

Leatherwood was the only Cardinal to go 4-0 over the two matches, winning both of her matches at No. 4 singles, and teaming up with Emma Krummel to finish 2-0 at No. 2 doubles. Sami Kruger and Lynham each played to a 3-1 mark, with the pair teaming up to go 1-1 at No. 1 doubles. Kruger won both of her matches at first singles while Lynham took two at third singles.

The team's other match, against Augustana College on Wednesday, resulted in a 7-2 defeat. Leatherwood, who tallied a perfect 8-0 record on the week, accounted for both points with wins at fourth singles and, with partner Krummel, second doubles, which went to a tiebreaker.

"We were fortunate enough to have really good competition," said Otterbein head coach Pat Anderson about the Florida trip. "With a lot of new faces this year, it was nice having the opportunity to see them perform under pressure. Our mantra was one better than the time before. I think we did a good job sticking to that."

Otterbein is scheduled to resume competition March 21, opening Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) play against the University of Mount Union in Westerville. Otterbein is defending OAC regular-season and tournament champion.
