Women's Tennis Sends Six to ITA Regionals in Fall Finale

FINAL RESULTS

PHOTO DAY

ST. Louis, Mo. – The Otterbein women's tennis team finished off its fall slate with another nice trip to ITA Central Regionals over the weekend, this time sending a program record six players to compete in the event.

Plenty of Cardinals represented nicely and earned W's in their respective draws. Among the notable highlights were Lillia Walter knocking off a top-10 ranked opponent, and Erin Storrer making the Round of 16 both individual and with doubles partner Emma Henson.

Walter delivered a rousing come-from-behind effort to stun Amanda Lopykinski of Hope College, losing the initial set 6-1 before storming back. She prevailed in a 7-2 breaker to draw the match even, then carried that momentum into the third for a dominant 6-0 triumph.

Walter returned the following day but dropped a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Natalie Bassett of North Central.

Storrer, who made the quarterfinals last year, opened her run this time around with a smooth 6-0, 6-0 shutout against Kimbeley Peterson (Principia). She then notched another straight-set victory in the second round in the form of a 6-2, 7-5 count over MJ Campos of Lake Forest.

Storrer was eliminated in the Round of 16 by Karen Gao from host Wash U, but also found success with Henson in the doubles portion. That duo earned a bye through the opening round before bouncing an Ohio Northern team 8-2. The Round of 16 would be a tough 8-6 battle against Ashley Isaac/Caroline Sproule from Wittenberg.

Walter and Olivia Eckels picked up an 8-0 shutout in the bottom of the bracket, then dropped a stiff test against the host school and another to a North Central tandem in the consolation ladder.

Henson had a tough draw in her singles bracket, falling to top seed Claudia Ng of Chicago to begin and then faced off against Sha Shukla (Case Western Reserve) in the drawback.

Cassady Shough had a 7-6, 6-0 win over Christina Duvall (Transylvania) while Rachelle Moses was able to gain solid experience with two matches individually.

Otterbein will get back to work over the winter time and prep for what should be another exciting spring slate.
