GAMBIER, Ohio – It was a long Sunday of flip-flopped results for Otterbein on the women's tennis court, traveling to nearby Kenyon College for a pair of non-conference matches that ended the weekend.
The Cardinals fell to No. 18-ranked Kenyon in the morning session before having some time off to regroup over lunch, and then swapped that 9-0 score around to shutout Earlham College in the afternoon.
Otterbein is now 7-4 on the year entering Ohio Athletic Conference play, which begins this coming weekend.
KENYON RECAP:
The Cards battled as best they could against a familiar nationally-ranked power, as the two sides played last year in the NCAA opening round. Kenyon took all three doubles courts, albeit a very back-and-forth 8-4 showdown atop the board featuring
Erin Storrer and
Lillia Walter against Eleni Lazaridou and Allaire Berl.
Storrer then exchanged competitive points at first singles with Lazaridou, a reigning All-American (from Greece) after making the semifinal round in NCAA Championship singles play last spring. Lazaridou would claim this meeting 6-4, 6-2.
Aubrey McMahon won five games across her two sets in singles play in trading scorers with Lalasa Nagireddy.
EARLHAM RECAP:
After hitting the rest button over lunchtime, Otterbein eventually made quick work of the Quakers by taking all courts in relative ease. That started with a trio of 8-0 sweeps in doubles action.
Storrer and
Taryn Simmers were perfect (6-0, 6-0) in bookending the singles lineup while
Olivia Eckels and
Cassady Shough only dropped a single game in their showings.
Lillia Walter (2) and
Rachelle Moses (4) were also victorious rather comfortably to help secure the clean sheet.
PATH TO DEFENSE:
The Cardinals are now looking to win their third-straight OAC title over the next 5-6 weeks, as cross-toev Capital will travel up to the north end of town on Good Friday. First doubles serve on campus is set for 10 a.m.
