WESTERVILLE – Otterbein senior
Lillia Walter was named the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the week of March 10-16.
This marks the second straight week that an Otterbein student-athlete has earned this recognition following graduate student
Erin Storrer on March 10.
Walter earned the accolade after posting a 7-1 overall record in four matches in Florida. She played at Nos. 1 and 2 singles and Nos. 1 and 2 doubles and finished the week 3-1 in singles play and 4-0 in doubles in helping lead Otterbein to a perfect 4-0 record with wins of 4-3 over Grace College, 7-0 over Loras, 7-0 over Oglethorpe and 7-0 over Methodist.
She won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles and 6-1 with freshman
Daniela De Mata at No. 2 doubles against Loras. Against Oglethorpe, she won 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and 6-0 with freshman
Niya Bell at No. 1 doubles. She won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles and 6-1 with De Mata at No. 2 doubles against Methodist. She added a 6-0 victory with De Mata at No. 2 doubles against Grace. Her only loss was a 6-4, 6-7, 5-10 defeat at No. 2 singles against Grace.
A three-time First Team All-OAC and ITA Scholar-Athlete honoree, Walter has earned Academic All-OAC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District distinctions in each of the past two seasons. She leads the Cardinals in wins this season with a 21-10 overall mark (9-6 in singles, 12-4 in doubles) and boasts a career record of 132-62 (61-31 in singles, 71-31 in doubles).
Winners of seven straight matches, the Cardinals return to action on Tuesday at Cedarville at 4 p.m.
