Men's Golf defeats Capital 18-4 to win War for the Oar

CANAL WINCHESTER — The Otterbein men's golf team rolled past Capital, 18-4, across fall and spring rounds in the War for the Oar match play event on Thursday.

The Basics
  • Venue: West Chester Golf Course - Canal Winchester, Ohio
  • The event utilized match play-style scoring.
  • Otterbein won the men's fall match play 9-1 at NorthStar Golf Club in Sunbury and took Thursday's spring match 9-3.
Match Play - 18 Hole Results
  • Junior Ian Morgan closed out his unfinished fall match with a 3 & 1 victory, then halved today's match against Keegan Billingham. 
  • Junior Carter Woodward closed it out on hole 15 with a 4 & 3 victory over Cam Donahue. 
  • Junior Colin Bibler secured a 4 &3 win against Ryan Murphy, clinching the match on hole 15. 
  • Sophomore Clay Bruning earned a 4 & 3 win over Adam Murphy, finishing strong on the 15th hole.  
  • Sophomore Nick McMullen closed out Ricky Walsh on hole 16 with a 4 & 2 victory. 
  • Junior Cam Uhl halved his match with Cole Crandall after 18 holes. 
  • Senior Quinn Gallagher dominated his match, earning  a 7 & 5 win over Nolan Frey and wrapping things up on hole 13. 
  • Freshman Noah Huard battles to the final hole and edged Aidan Isaac, 1 up. 
  • Senior Blake Bennett closed out Logan Wycoff on hole 17 for a 2 & 1 win. 
  • Senior Nathan Brown also finished strong, defeating Brodey Dewitt 2 & 1 on hole 17. 
Match Play - 9 Hole Results
  • Freshman Aidan Johnson dropped his first 9-hole match, 3 & 1, to Andrew Arway. 
  • Johnson fell in his second match, with Andreas Rider finishing 2 up.  
Notables
  • Entering Thursday, Jake Morgan (75.0) and Woodward (76.2) led the Cardinals in 18-hole scoring averages among those with at least 17 rounds played this season.
  • Jake Morgan entered the weekend with a season-best 18-hole score of 68, which leads the team.
  • Jake Morgan, Gallagher and Woodward are reigning All-Ohio Athletic Conference honorees.
  • Otterbein has won eight OAC championships in the last nine seasons.
  • Head coach Brian Booher is a seven-time OAC Coach of the Year in men's golf (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2023, 2024) and has guided four of the past six OAC individual champions (2018, 2019, 2021, 2024).
