WESTERVILLE, Ohio — The Otterbein women's tennis team delivered a strong all-around performance Wednesday evening, earning a 5–2 victory over Capital in the Battle of the Oar rivalry match that, due to weather delays, relocated to the Clements Recreation Center on Otterbein's campus.
The Cardinals embraced the shift, setting the tone early by securing the doubles point. The pairing of Molly Jones and senior Caitlin Pennington led the way with a dominant 6–0 win at No. 3, while Breanna Ball and Raina Smith followed with a 6–3 victory at No. 2 to clinch the opening point.
Otterbein carried that momentum into singles play, highlighted by resilience in extended matches. The Cardinals captured two three-set victories, including a hard-fought comeback from Taryn Simmers at No. 2 and a gritty performance from Jones at No. 5, both proving pivotal in building the team's advantage.
Smith added a straight set win at No. 6, and Pennington capped the evening in fitting fashion. The senior secured the clinching point with a composed straight-set victory at No. 4, sealing the 5–2 team result and ensuring the Oar remains with Otterbein.
Up next, the Cardinals host the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets this Saturday, April 25, for a 10 a.m. matchup.
